Stefan Uros III is remembered for being blinded by his father King Milutin and killed by his son, future Emperor Dusan, in tragic, medieval chain of events. His endowment church is also located in Kosovo and Metohia Province in town of Decane and it is considered as the biggest medieval project in Serbia. Because of its height the church is known as “Visoki” or Tall Decani in translation and Stefan Uros also, was nicknamed Decanski after the church.
It was built by Franciscan Mason Vito from town of Kotor, present day Montenegro, who once again brought western style architecture in Serbia as Decani Church resembles Italian churches from province of Apulia. Decani is listed on the UNESCO World Heritage list, with its frescoes being described as “one of the most valued examples of the so-called Palaeologan renaissance in Byzantine painting”.
