Manasija Monestery

Prince Lazar’s successor, Despot Stefan moved government institutions towards north, as Belgrade became Serbia’s capital. He built Belgrade Fortress that managed to resist Turks until 1521. He tried to play, quite successfully, double agent game squeezed between mighty Ottoman Empire and Hungarian Kingdom.

His endowment is also located in Morava Valley and it is called Manasija Monastery. Architecturally, it resembles western churches despite Moravian style fashion that was dominating throughout XV century. Twelve towered fortress was built around the monastery complex, trying to save religious site from Turkish invasion while famous Resava copying school was trying to catch pace set by European Humanism Movement .
