Bridge on the river Drina

Mehmed Pasa Sokolovic, Grand Vizier of The Ottoman Empire ordered Drina Bridge to be built near town of Visegrad. It is testimony to hardships young Bajica Sokolovic had to overcome since he was forcefully taken away from his family as a young boy to Istanbul. His name was changed into Mehmed as he started to climb social lader. Eventually, he earned himself Grand Vizier position (Prime Minister in today’s terms) during Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent. Mehmed Pasa Sokolovic never forgot his origins and made sure he was to be remembered by building various endowments while Drina Bridge is considered as the most important one.
