When Prince Michael was killed in 1868, Obrenovic dynasty found itself without direct Michael’s heir. According to everybody, the best solution was still underage Michal’s second cousin Milan. He was withdrawn from Paris where he attended elite school in order to assume Regent position. Milan raised Serbian principality into kingdom rank, hence becoming first Serbian king after Middle Ages. This is when new court was built that now serves as Belgrade’s City Hall. Since Karadjordjevic dynasty, later on built their own court, Milan’s edifice immediately became the Old Court and by that name it is still referred to. Milan abdicated in favor of his son Aleksandar and left for Paris since he divorced his wife Queen Natalia over infidelity scandal. He is remembered as the biggest bonvivan in Obrenovic dynasty.
