Ever since Greek Minister of Culture and ex actress Melina Mercouri started European Culture Capital project with her French colleague Jack Lang in 1985, when Athens was declared first cultural capital, more than 50 European cities have been given this title. For the first time since then, Novi Sad, a city outside EU, has been declared European Culture Capital, together with Timisoara, Romania for 2021. Therefore we now have not only two cultural capitals, but a cultural region. Under the slogan “For the new bridges”, Novi Sad, like any other ECC, aims to bring Europeans closer together by highlighting the richness and diversity of European cultures and raising awareness of their common history and values. Therefore, among many other reasons, Novi Sad has produced yet another one, to attract visitors.
